We now announce our return for the 2nd annual Joseph H. Kanter Prize!

We were pleased to award the 2009 Kanter Prize went to Dr. James O’Connell nominated by the Massachusetts Medical Society. Dr. O’Connell developed amazing strategies that enhance health care delivery and diminish the cost of health care for the homeless, saving unnecessary hospital admissions and valued health care dollars. For this effort, Dr. O’Connell received $100,000 and the Massachusetts Medical Society was given $10,000 for their participation.
Mr. Kanter also gave four runners-ups $25,000: Jeffrey Henderson, M.D. of South Dakota (South Dakota State Medical Society), Neil Calman, M.D. (Medical Society of the State of New York), Sister Anne Brooks, D.O. (Mississippi Osteopathic Medical Association), Herbert Smitherman Jr., M.D. (Michigan State Medical Society & Wayne County Medical Society of Southeast Michigan).
