The History of the Joseph H. Kanter Family Foundation

Joseph H. Kanter established the Joseph H. Kanter Family Foundation following his personal battle with prostate cancer. Unable to quickly and accurately determine the best course of treating the disease despite access to the best medical resources available, Mr. Kanter recognized that improved access to evidence-based supported health care data could significantly enhance medical treatment for all Americans. Since then, Mr. Kanter has committed his time and money to his vision for a National Health Outcomes Database, a database that would present information to providers and patients on the best treatment options available for a particular patient.

In 1998, the Joseph H. Kanter Family Foundation co-founded the Health Legacy Partnership (HELP) with the Federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to build awareness and bipartisan support for the creation of a National Health Outcomes Database utilizing millions of personal electronic medical records to collect scientific data on what works. Today, the Kanter Family Foundation is focusing on implementation of a database. In partnership with eHealth Initiative, the Kanter Family Foundation launched a national effort to create a model for using electronic health information from multiple data sources.
